Effect of Surfactant on Bioavailability of Soil PAEs

Surfactants are widely applied for biological remediation of contaminated soil.The effect of Tween-80 on PAEs bioavailability of artificial polluted and field polluted soil was studied under laboratory simulation testing, using HPCD ex-traction method. The results showed that the synergism of T-80 on bioavailability of 3 PAEs in artificial polluted soil reached a maximum when the concentration of T-80 was 2.5 g/kg, and bioavailability of DMP, DEP and DOP increased 38.6 %, 61.4%and 45.3% separately. The order of synergism of 3 PAEs is DEP DOPDMP. The synergism of T-80 on bioavailability of 3 PAEs in field polluted soil reached a maximum when the concentration of T-80 was 2.5 g/kg, and bioavailability of DMP,DEP and DOP increased 79.2%, 74.5% and 58.7% separately. The synergism is significant in field polluted soil, and the order of synergism of 3 PAEs is DMPDEPDOP. Bioavailability of PAEs in artificial polluted and field polluted soil was significantly increased when the concentration of surfactant T-80 was 2.5 g/kg, so this concentration is the most suitable concentra-tion to increase bioavailability of soil PAEs.
