Characteristics of Microorganisms and Dissolved Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Phragmites Australis Rhizosphere as Affected by Compaction Sediment Amelioration

Sediment compaction is one of the major contributors to lakeshore wetland deterioration and shrinkage. Rhizon samplers were employed to obtain in situ dissolved nutrients in Phragmites australis rhizosphere, and root bags were also collected rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere sediments to study microbial response to sediment amelioration by sampling inside vs outside rooted Phragmites australis sediments. Three compaction sediment amelioration were used in this present study, in-cluding a slight loosening method(cross-shaped tillage, CT), a heavy loosening method(plow-tillage, PT), and sand capping(SC). The results showed that multiple comparison analysis of three treatments showed that there has been no significant dif-ference in PO_4~(3-), NO_3~-and NH_4~+concentration of Phragmites australis growth. However, a significant reduce was observed in PO_4~(3-)and NH_4~+contents in rhizosphere of CT, compared to the control. After sediment amelioration, microbial numbers in-creased and further strengthened with Phragmites australis growth. Ammonibacteria were characterized by a dominant species and diversity index were lower in rhizosphere than in non-rhizosphere sediments. The number of ammonibacteria,phosphobacteria and nitrosobacteria increased significantly by 4.4~27.4, 3.3~12.7 and 6.4~41.0 folds, therefore, rhizosphere effects of soil microbe(R/S) was apparently different and were strengthened with growth.
