Application of OP-FTIR in Air Pollution Monitoring of Chemical Industry

OP-FTIR and GC-FID were qualitatively and quantitatively compared in order to evaluate the performance and applicability of OP-FTIR in chemical industry park in this study. The result of standard gas experiment indicated that FTIR technique can be used to determine some characteristic pollution factors, especially for some high concentration organic mat-ters which within ± 5%, repeatability less than 4%, and stability less than 2%. Result of low concentration of pollutants had good reproducibility and good stability(less than 5%), but the indication error is larger(most indication error is more than30%), which indicates obvious systematic error. In a typical chemical plant area of East China, the two groups of OP-FTIR monitors were effective for detection of methane, isobutane, ethyl acetate, ethylene and some benzenes, which the maximum value monitored was 10 times the mean value, indicating that the technology well used to capture transient emissions of con-taminants in the chemical zone. In comparison, FTIR had a good correlation with the concentration of benzene detected by GC-FID, but FTIR showed generally higher concentration than the results of GC-FID. Therefore, OP-FTIR can improve the analysis of characteristic pollution sources and the real-time alarm function in monitoring application of chemical industry zone.
