Application of Biological Iron Sulfide Composites in Protection of Rice Germination in Cadmium Contaminated Paddy Field

Widespread cadmium-contaminated paddy fields present a huge threat to global rice yields and human health.Nowadays, the method to treat cadmium contamination in paddy fields is hard to popularize because of their own limitations.In this research, the attenuation effect of biological iron sulfide composites on cadmium in water culture experiment of rice were explored and the effect of Cd~(2+) concentration and addition of biological iron sulfide composites on rice germination was studied. The results indicate that the higher Cd~(2+) concentration is added, the poorer performance of germination potential, germination rate, fresh weight, length of shoot and root can be. The effect is obvious when Cd~(2+) concentrations come to 20 mg/L.With increasing mole ration of biological iron sulfide composites to cadmium, the parameters are getting better, Cd~(2+) concentrations are getting lower and the best additive amount is 2(mole ration). Biological iron sulfide composites play an auxo-action for rice germination when Cd~(2+) concentrations come to 40 mg/L and the mole ratio turns to 5.0. The results indicate that biological iron sulfide composites have a great application prospect on the treatment of cadmium-contaminated paddy fields.
