Photo-degradation of Sulforhodamine B by Modified Titanium Gypsum

Titanium gypsum is the by-product of titanium dioxide industry. The waste product utilization has plagued the development of enterprise. By comparing the different modified methods, the titanium gypsum calculated at 500 ℃ was chosen as a catalyst to study its photocatalytic degradation of Sulforhodamine B(SRB). The prepared titanium gypsum was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), the conditions of the catalytic experiment were optimized. The results showed that the photocatalytic degradation efficiency was the best with 2.0 g/L catalyst and pH value 8.0.After 10 h, the degradation rate was improved from 16.4% to 49.3%. The degradation process well fitted the pseudo first-order kinetics. The sunlight degradation experiment was conducted outdoor in summer under the best experimental conditions,with the degradation rate up to 22.6% after 6 h, which was improved about 14.5% over the black group. The results show that the calcinated titanium gypsum had a certain prospect in the treatment of organic pollutants.
