Effects of SRT on Operation Efficiency of Humus Soil-SBR Process

This paper described a bench-scale experiment of anaerobic-aerobic SBR process enhanced by humus soil to treat simulative domestic wastewater, aiming to investigate the effects of sludge retention time(SRT) on removal of nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) from the wastewater. The experiment suggested that the increase of SRT scarcely influenced COD removal which ranged 90%~92%, while TN decreased from 66.27% to 60.83%, but the removal of TP increased. N and P both reached best removal when SRT set at 15 days. In addition, PAOs' P release capacity and PAOs' P uptake capacity per PHA utilized reached the peak when set at 10 days, the less at SRT 5 days, while the lowest at SRT 15 days; glycogen synthesis capacity of GAOs per PHA utilized decreased as prolonged; and the proportion of GAOs decreased and PAOs yet were the predominant germ when SRT got longer. In conclusion, the achievement of the experiment was conducive to solve the present contradiction of removing N and removing P simultaneously in terms of SRT, and to the promotion of the HS-SBR process as well.
