Research on the Relationship between Economic Development and Carbon Emissions Based on Global Perspective

From a global perspective, this paper studied the relationship and differences between carbon emissions and economic development among four kinds of different economies. First of all, it established Tapio decoupling model, which indicated that the degree of reliance on carbon emissions in the development of all economies generally presented a strong to weak process. Theil index and other indicators showed that, after 2002, the gap between various economies carbon emissions sharply reduced. This suggested that it was a worldwide consensus to develop low-carbon economy. Then, the panel data model was constructed to analyze the factors of carbon emissions among different economies from 1998 to 2013. The results showed that the carbon emissions had a positive correlation with industrial and agricultural added value, whereas a negative correlation with forest area, the carbon emissions from developed countries was still the largest. The results guaranteed that the industrial and agricultural production were still the most important factors in carbon emissions, more forest area helped reduce the influence of carbon dioxide. In the aspect of environmental protection and reducing carbon emissions, developed countries should share more responsibilities and obligations.
