Biological Characteristics of Lymantria viola Swinhoe and its Control

The Lymantria viola Swinhoe is an important pest of Castanea henryi in Fujian province. Ti has three generations one year and overwinters as egg in Fujian. Larva hatch in early April. There are six instars ordinarily in the larval development which lasts 38-54 days. The pupa stage lasts 11-24 days. The control experiments showed that the following control measures were effective; spraying 90% Dipterex emulsion with a concentration of 1: 1000 or 20% Pydrin emulsion with a concentration of 1: 3000.
