Culm characteristics of three sympodial bamboo species in south Sichuan

In order to provide reference and theoretical basis for the development of sympodial bamboo production,three sympodial bamboo plantations (Dendocalamus farinosus,Bambusa pervariabilis×Dendrocalamopsis daii,Bambusa rigida) growing in southern Sichuan were taken for research objects.DBH,total length,culm height,culm tapering,wall thickness,internode length were studied respectively.Correlation analysis and regression model simulator showed that the correlation of DBH and the other culm characteristic factors,culm height,culm weight and whole node reached significant level.Comparative analysis revealed B.rigida had maximal total length at the same DBH,then was D.farinosus,B.pervariabilis×D.daii the lowest.For the culm weight,B.rigida had the largest weight,whereas,D.farinosus and B.pervariabilis×D.daii was nearly equival.The results showed more than seventy percent of culm weight distributed in the middle and lower part.With the rise of the culm height,the descending rate of relative wall thickness was B.rigidaD.farinosusB.pervariabilis×D.daii and relative diameter was D.farinosusB.rigidaB.pervariabilis×D.daii.B.rigida had the biggest wall thickness at the same DBH compared with D.farinosus and B.pervariabilis×D.daii.
