A Study on Dust Retention Capacity of 18 Bamboos Including Bambusa multiplex ‘Fernleaf’ etc

Based on the survey analysis of 18 species of ornamental bamboo in Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University,this paper attempted to explore the dust retention capacity of these bamboos with the methods of direct sampling and statistic analysis. The results showed the significant difference in the dust retention capacity of plant types of bamboo. The dust retention capacity of 18 species of ornamental bamboo could be listed in descending order as fllows: Indocalamus latifoliusPhyllostachys aureaBambusa multiplex ‘Fernleaf ’Phyllostachys heterocycla ‘Viridisulcata’PhyllostachysBambusa eutuldoides var. viridi-vittataBambusa multiplex cv. Alphonse-karri NakaiBambusa ventricosaBambusa pervariabilisPhyllostachys nigraBambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’Phyllostachys heterocycla ‘Taokiang’Neosinocalamus affinis ‘Viridiflavus’Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. SpectabilisSinobambusa tootsikBambusa mutltiple x ‘Stripestem Fernleaf’Dendrocalamus x ‘Stripestem Fernleaf’Dendrocalamus minor var.amoenusGigantochloa verticillata, showing the trend as fllows: small shrubby ornamental bamboomedium-sized shrubby and arborescent ornamental bamboolarge arborescent ornamental bamboo.The dust retention quantity at the height of 50 cm of the most bamboo species or varieties was larger than that of at the height of 150 cm and 200 cm above the ground. On the same level, the dust retention capacity of Bambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’ is the strongest at the height of 200 cm above the ground,of 200 cm above the ground, and the dust retention capacity of Indocalamus latifolius is the strongest at the height of 50 cm and 150 cm above the ground.
