Dissolution-inhabiting Modification of Calcium Sulfate Whisker and Its Characterization

In order to solve the high solubility and low retention problems used as paper filler,calcium sulfate was characterized and modified by dissolution-inhabiting.The influence factors,such as type and dosage dissolution-inhabiting additive,temperature,time and stirring rate were investigated.The results showed that stearic acid treatment can obviously decrease solubility of calcium sulfate,its optimum treatment conditions are as follows: dosage is 2%,temperature is 90 ℃,reaction time is 30 min,stirring rate is 400 r/min.After this treatment,the conductivity of calcium sulfate can decrease by 48.4%.The SEM results show that size of modified calcium sulfate obviously decrease and the FTIR shows that stearic acid molecular is bound with calcium sulfate surface very well.
