Volcanic tephra mineral modified by hydrochloric acid solution was effective for removal of phosphorus pollutant. The suitable concentration of hydrochloric acid medium was 1 mol/L,the phosphorus removal efficiency was 92.02% when 1 g acid modified volcanic tephra was added into 30 mL 50 mg/L phosphorus solution(pH value close to neutral). The adsorption behavior fit for Langmuir adsorption isotherm, the maximum adsorption capacity for phosphorus was 1.24 mg/g.
