Progress in the oxidation resistance of molybdenum disilicide

Molybdenum disilicide(MoSi_2)has excellent resistance properties to oxidation and corrosion at high temperature,but it disintegrates catastrophically(Pesting) during oxidation at low temperature(400~700℃).The phenomenon and mechanism of Pesting of MoSi_2 and its composites were introduced.Its high temperature and cyclic oxidation were reviewed.It was pointed out that Pesting is not an intrinsic phenomenon of MoSi_2 but the accelerated oxidation at low temperature is inherent characteristic.
