Historical Evidence on Anti-Domestic Violence in the Base Areas

CUI Lan-ping(School of Philosophy and Social Development at the Northwest Politics and Law University,Xi'an 710063,Shannxi Province,Chian)
During the New Democratic Revolutionary Period, the Chinese Communist Party started efforts at anti-domestic violence in the base areas. It adopted efforts to 1) prevent domestic violence,2) challenge traditional values giving rise to gender based discrimination,3) promote women's economic independence and 4) incorporate anti-domestic violence into marriage system reforms. These efforts had direct and indirect effects and resulted in,either voluntarily or passively,a man's enhanced self restraint.Indirect effects and voluntary restraint were inevitable outcome of such more comprehensive efforts to tackle the base of the problem of domestic violence. What we have learned is that comprehensive efforts at tackling domestic violence are most effective ways not only to eradicate the problem but also to reinforce a harmonious relationship between anti-domestic violence and the promotion of social reform and progress in the development of human society.Party's leadership is key to any comprehensive anti-domestic violence efforts.
