Family/Marriage-related Death of Women at the Beginning of Liberation

LI Hong-he(School of Politics and Management Science at the Henan Normal University,Xinxiang 453007,Henan Province,China)
At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic, after the adoption of The Marriage Law,women's demand for marriage based on love met with fierce resistance of the traditional feudal family systems, resulting in thousands of women committing suicide or being killed. The wide promotion of the implementation of the Marriage Law prevented the killing of women and women's suicide and also promoted social relations based on democracy, harmony and equality between women and men. This moreover has laid a foundation for the establishment of new marriage and family relations based on socialist principles.
