A Study of the Promotion and Implementation of the Marriage Law in the Early Stage of the People's Republic of China:Using Huidong Area in Fujian Province as an Example

WANG Dong-mei;College of Marxism, China Agricultural University;
Taking Huidong area of Fujian Province as an example, this essay examines the local strategies adopted to promote and implement the Marriage Law in the early stage of the Peop1e's Republic of China. These strategies included promoting the Law through holding conferences combined with specific research, through implementing the party's central task, and through carrying out local social reforms, to realize the importance of the Law. However, there were issues with these strategies including the failure to fully implement the Law, and imbalanced outcomes. These issues, though they might result from the strategies of implementing the Marriage law,were also related to rural traditions and women's inferior status.(Therefore it is important to adopt effective strategies that take into consideration of traditions and gender inequalities.)
