A SURVEY OF THE CONCENTRATION OF RADON AND ITS DAUGHTERS IN AIR OF THE DUGOUTS IN THREE CITIES OF CHANGSHA,HENGYANG AND ZHUZHOU

In this paper,the concentrations of radon and its daughters inair of the dugouts was reported.This survey was made in three cities ofChangsha,Hengyang and Zhuzhou.In dugouts which are used for cultivatinof mushrooms(category Ⅰ)or which have been reconstructed as hotels and theplaces for recreation(categoryⅡ),the average concentration of radon andits daughter were found to be 0.451 Bq/1(12.2 pCi/1)and 0.872μJ/m~3(0.0419WL)in Changsha,0.710Bq/1(19.2pCi/1)and 1.47μJ/m~3(0.0709WL)in Hengyang and 0.236 Bq/1(6.39 pCi/1)and 0.418μJ/m~3(0.0201WL)in Zhuzhou,respectively.However,in those dugouts which have been recon-structed as the places for recreation the averange concentration of radon andits daughters were obtained to 0.566 Bq/1(15.3 pCi/1)and 0.940μJ/m~3(0.0452WL)in Changsha,1.10Bq/1(29.8 pCi/1)and 2.83μJ/m~3(0.136WL)in Hengyang and 0.511 Bq/1(13.8 pCi/1)and 0.982μJ/m~3(0.0472WL)in Zhuzhou.Forγ-rays,the range of exposure rate was 6—22 μR/h with amean of 12 μR/h.The effective dose equivalent for persons working inthese dugouts was estimated and some measures for radiation protection weresuggested.
