OPTIMIZED DESIGN FOR THE RAPID DETERMINATION OF PLUTONIUM IN URINE

Plutonium-239 is the most radiotoxic and the most harmful nuclide to human.The rapid determination of plutonium in urine is favorable for quick estimation of acute internal contamination by transferable plutonium and for medical treatment in time.In this paper,we presented the application of orthogonal design for the optimization of the procedures of radiochemical analysis of plutonium-239 in urine,and it takes less than 6 hours from sample collection through source preparation using the optimized procedure with addition recovery rate of 97.1% and the detection limit of 4.2×10-4 Bq.So it could provide the criterion in 24 hours to judge existence of acute internal contamination by plutonium-239.
