CYTOGENETIC ADAPTIVE RESPONSE INDUCED BY LOW DOSE RADIATION IN MOUSE GERM CELLS

he adaptive response for chromosome aberrations in sperm cells and for translocation in spermatogonia was observed in male mice which previously received an exposure to X rays at doses of 0. 05-0. 3 Gy and after 4 h, another exposure at a dose of 1. 5 Gy.The results indicate that the adaplive response can be induced with adaptive doses from 0. 05Gy to 0. 30 Gy and that the lower the adaptive dose, the more obvious the magnitude of adaptive response induced, suggesting that in germ cells, as in somatic cells, there also is the adaptive response, i. e. the phenomenon that previous exposure to a lower dose of radiation can reduce the damage caused by subsequent exposure to a higher one.
