SIMULANT MEASUREMENT FOR THE TRACHEOBRONCHIAL REGION DOSE FROM EXPOSURE TO ENVIRONMENTAL RADON AND THORON PROGENIES

Using the bronchial dosemeter based on the theoretical concept of Hopke et al., the dose simulantly in the tracheobronchial (T B) region is measured due to inhaling radon and thoron progenies at environmental level. The dose conversion factors (in mGy/WLM and mSv/a·Bq·m -3 ) is calculated empoying measurement of the activity deposition fraction of 222 Rn and 220 Rn progenies in the nasal cavity and the T B region. Variations of dose conversion faction, as a result of changing exposure condition, such as off/on air conditioning, emitting negative/positive ion in a generic laboratory was studyed. The annual effective dose (in mSv/a) was estimated by measuring Rn and Tn concentrations with an activated charcoal canister. Simulant measurement results of the dose to T B region were compared with calculated results based on James average dose model and regional dose model of J B and J E. The results show that the calculated results based on James model are similar to simulant measurement results and emitting negative ions can't reduce annual dose to bronchi. The most effective method for reducing annual effective dose to bronchi is ventilation and air conditioning.
