A STUDY OF THE PITTING CHARACTERISTICS OF Cr18Ni9 STANLESS STEEL IN NaCI SOLUTIONS USING POTENTIOSTATIC-GALVANOSTATIC TRANSIENT TECHNIQUE

In this paper the Potentiostatic-Galvanostatic (P-G) transient technique,including its prin- ciple and the ways of experiments and data analysis,was presented which can be used to study the initiation and propogation of the pitting corrosion.By analysing the P-G response curves,the relation between the polarizition potentials and the electrochemical parameteres which can evaluate the stability of passive films and the characteristics of pitting corrosion was obtains.The idea of the critical pitting potential Ecp and the method of analysing the cause of pitting were introduced.Based on this technique,the P-G response char- acteristics of the following systems was investigated in this communication:304SS in 0.5mol/l NaCl and 0.1mol/l NaCl,321SS in 0.Smol/l NaCl.In the end,the pitting performance of the above systems was dis- cussed.
