HU Ping;ZHOU Hui-mei;YANG Yi-ling;School of Foreign Languages, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Hunan Institute of Oral Records and Translation;
Ba Dong Township, located in the southwest Xinning County, Hunan Province, is endowed with abundant and varying intangible cultural heritages. The author has investigated, collected and organized diversified representations of the Yao minority's traditional culture, such as the Sacrifice Dance around the Convex Altar, Worship to the Bamboo King, the Bamboo Root Carving Mask, the Technique of Bamboo Pulp Papermaking, Bamboo Musical Instruments, etc., which are elaborated and explained in the Dong Dialect, and has proposed to integrate and publicize such forms by virtue of the "Bamboo Culture" notion. The author has also suggested to establish the "Ba Dong Cultural and Ecological Protection Pilot Area" according to the underdeveloped status quo of the Bamboo Culture and the Dong Dialect. In this way, the endangered Dong Dialect can be saved, and the trouble facing the protection of the intangible cultural heritages in this region can be solved.
