Size Characteristics of TiO_2 Nano-particles by Propane/Air flame CVD Method

Size characteristics of TiO_2 nano-particles synthezed by the oxidation of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl_4) in propane/air flame were in- vestigated.By counting the particles from TEM pictures,frequency and cumulative size distributions of 16 samples of TiO_2 nano-particles at different operational conditions of the mole ratio of oxygen to propane from 2.5 to 9 and the mass flow rate of the precursor TiCl_4 from 0.06~0.135 g/min were obtained.The results showed that the size distribution was close to normal distribution,median size was ranging from about 15~50 nm,and relative spread of size distribution was in a range of about 0.2~0.6.The median size of TiO_2 nano-particles by propane/air flame CVD process and the median size of TiO_2 and SiO_2 nano-particles by CO/O_2 flame CVD process could be correlated to par- ticle growth number as d_(50)=1.35(1+Ngrw)~(1/3).
