Efficiency and Pressure of Non-steady State Filtration by Fibrous Filters in Presence of Electric Field

The model developed by D.Thomas was employed to predict the changes of the filtration efficiency and pressure drop and the param- eters such as filter depth;particle size and electric field intensity was studied in order to observe their effects on efficiency and pressure drop. A calculation approach was applied to calculate the efficiency and pres- sure of non-steady state filtration by fibrous filters in the presence of electric field application.The filtration efficiency and pressure drop of single fiber was calculated,then of the steady-state of the clean fibrous filter.And the filtration efficiency and pressure drop of non-steady state was calculated using above two results.Some important conclusions were achieved that the pressure drop of fibrous filter became lower when the particle size was smaller;the efficiency of fibrous filter be- came higher,but the pressure drop became lower because of the in- crease of electric field intensity;the increase of filter depth could re- markably improve the filtration efficiency.
