Optimization of cyclone separator exhaust pipe based on method of entropy production

In order to improve the capture efficiency of the cyclone separator for fine particles, the exhaust pipe radius of cyclone separator was optimized. RSM and DPM model were used to determine the energy distribution of the internal flow field in a cyclone separator with contraction radius of exhaust pipe. The turbulent kinetic energy, entropy production due to turbulent flow and shear stress on the wall were analyzed by the entropy production theory. The results show that, with the decrease of the radius, turbulence entropy production and wall entropy production are concentrated in the the exhaust pipe and capture outlet. When the ratio of the contraction radius to the exhaust pipe radius is 0.6,the cyclone has higher separation efficiency, smaller increase of entropy production and smaller energy consumption.
