Thermodynamic Property and Recognition Mechanism of Compounds on 2, 3, 6-tri- (O-2'-hydroxypropyl derivatized) -β- Cyclodextrin Stationary Phase

Synthesized Permethyl 2, 3, 6-tri-(O-2'-hydroxypropyl)-β-Cyclodextri (PMHP-β-CD) was used as stationary phases in capillary column gas chromatography. Excellent selectivity was obtained for the separation of many compounds, such as fourteen enantiomeric pairs; sit groups of positional isomers of aromatic compounds. The recognition and separation mechanism were discussed by measuring various thermodynamic parameters, free energy, enthalpy, entropy and the difference in enthalpy and entropy of those compounds. Results were compared with those obtained on 2, 3, 6 - tributyl -β - Cycledextrin (TB -β- CD) stationary phase. The - △S values of aromatic compounds on PMHP-β-CD were much higher (approximately 20 ~ 30 J/mol·K) than those on TB-β-CD, which shows that the steric hindrance effect of the PMHP is very obvious. The polarity and selectivity are higher than those of TB-β-CD.
