Determination of Trace Elements in Fused Whole-Rock Glasses by Laser Ablation Micro Probe-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry

An analysis method for the direst determination of trace elements in alkaline-fused cock glasses by laser ablation micro probe-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LAM-ICP-MS) was developed. Thirty-three trace elements in JG-la and JB-3 were determined by using GSR-l and GSR-3 as external calibration standard, respectively, and 55 Mn in the analyzed samples as internal normnalization standard. The detection foot of these trace elements analyzed by the present method is within the range of l ng/g - 120μg/g. The analytical results of single spot show that the RSD% is less than 10%, and the accuracies (CA%) within ± 10%, except the Sc, Ni, Ga, Nb, Hf, Ta and some of the heavy earth elements with RSD and CA of 10%-20%. Bulk analytical results of nine measurements for JB-3 and JG-la demonstrate that the RSD is less than 5%, and accuracies to 10%, with the exception of a few of trace elements. It was concluded that the analysis method presented in this paper is available for rapid determination of the trace elements in rocks with good precision and accuracy.
