Determination of Lomefloxacin by Charge-Transfer Reaction with Micelle-Stabilized Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry

A new ultraviolet spectrophotometric method for the determination of lomefloxacin (LMX) has been developed based on the charge transfer reaction with micelle stabilized. The UV spectrum characteristics of charge transfer complex formed between LMX as the donor and chloranil (TCBQ) as the acceptor in cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) micellar system was studied. Experimental results shows that stability of the complex is remarkably enhanced by CPB micellar system. The composition of the complex was found to be 1∶1 by Bent French and molar ratio methods. Beer′s law is obeyed in the range of 0.8~54 mg/L of LMX. r =0.9994. The apparent molar absorptivity of LMX complex at 323 nm is 3.56×10 4 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 . The proposed method has been applied to the determination of LMX in tablets. The recoveries are 97.8%~100.5%. The relative standard deviation is 0.9%~2.4%.
