Study of the Interaction between Thionine and DNA

This paper reports our recent research about the electrochemical character of thionine and the interaction between thionine and DNA by electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry technologies. The results show that thionine can insert into the inner of the DNA bi-helix structure. The kinetics parameters, the number of transferred electrons, standard potential E 0' and reaction rate constant are obtained by spectroelectrochemistry with results of 1.033, -0.209 V and 2.51×10 -3 s -1, respectively. Moreover, the thionine peak currents are decreased linearly with increased DNA concentration.
