QTL Analysis of Grain Shape and Chalkiness of Rice

The yield and quality characters of rice always have been the two important aspects of rice breeding. In this study, two varieties of Indica Rice R287 and Zhongzao35 were used as parents, which were significantly different in grain shape and chalkiness. A genetic population of 192 individual plants of F_2 and its derived F_(2:3) were constructed to phenotypically identify the grain length, grain width, ratio of length to width, 1 000-grain weight and white belly. Combining with Molecular Markers Genetic Linkage Map, QTL(quantitative trait locus) analysis was conducted. The results showed that 29 QTLs were detected, of which 6 QTLs were associated with grain weight,12 QTLs were related to grain shape traits, and 11 QTLs were concerned with chalkiness traits. They were distributed on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11 chromosomes, and the phenotypic variation rate ranged from 0.10% to 36.84%.
