Advances in Research on Biotechnology Breeding of Tree Peony(Paeonia suffruticosa)

Biotechnology breeding is an important means in improving tree peony varieties and contriving new germplasm. This paper summarized the advances in research on biotechnology breeding for tree peony, including tissue culture, genetic diversity, DNA fingerprint database construction, functional genes, genetic map construction, and so on. According to some existing problems, this paper also discussed the major methods, fields and development directions in the future studies. For tree peony tissue culture, rooting is still difficult and meristematic nodule will become hotspot. The development and application of molecular markers are recommended in research on genetic diversity and construction of DNA fingerprint database and genetic map for tree peony. Meanwhile,comprehensive and accurate DNA fingerprint database construction and QTLs location for phenotypic traits in tree peony are considered as the key fields. The major directions of tree peony functional genes are gene function verification and molecular regulation mechanism of key traits. The paper aimed at promoting the development of biotechnology breeding in tree peony, so as to provide a reference for its related technical innovations, molecular assisted selection breeding and transgenic breeding.
