Effects of Different LED Light Qualities on Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Heuchera spp. Plantlets

Heuchera‘palace purple'was used as the test material, and the clustered seedlings were cut into single seedlingsto used asexplant, which wascultured into 1/2 MS medium with 0.2 mg/LNAA under different light emitting diodes(LEDs), including red(R), blue(B), and red and blue composite lights(2 RB, 4 RB, 8 RB). The fluorescent lamp was set as the control to analyze the effects of different LEDs light qualities on growth and physiological characteristics of tissue-cultured Heuchera rooted plantlets, so as to select the best LEDs quality for the rooting culture of Heuchera plantlets. The results were as follows:(1) compared with the control treatment, most of the growth index of Heuchera plantlets under red and blue composite lights were inproved for a certain level. Under4 RB treatment, the root number, root length, total plant fresh weight, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, totalplant dry weight, shoot fresh weight, and root dry weight were significantly improved, which were improved by58.73%, 22.56%, 36.08%, 19.82%, 65.90%, 40.37%, 45.72% and 37.84%, respectively, compared to the control.(2) The R treatment was disadvantage to the biosynthesis of photosynthetic pigments, and no significance difference was between the other treatments.(3) Red light was beneficial to the accumulation of soluble sugar, and blue light decreased the content of soluble protein.(4) The autioxidant enzyme activities of SOD, CAT and POD activities had the best or the second best performance in 4 RB treatment, which increased the detoxification of Heuchera plantlets to active oxygen. In general, 4 RB treatment was advantageous to morphology formation, biomass accumulation, and photosynthetic pigments of Heuchera plantlets. In addition, 4 RB had strong antioxidant enzyme activities so that4 RB with the ratio of 4: 1 was the best light quality for rooting culture of Heuchera plantlets.
