Research Progress of microRNA Response to Plant Abiotic Stress

MicroRNA(miRNAs) is a class of endogenous, non-coding small(20~24 nt) RNAs that widely present in the genome of animals, plants and microorganism. Under different stress conditions, plant miRNAs can cut or suppress mRNA translation of target gene mRNA by regulating complementary pairing with target genes, thus regulating plant responses to various adversity stresses. This review summarized the discovery, synthesis and mechanism of miRNAs, and focused on the mechanism of plant miRNAs in response to abiotic stresses, such as drought, temperature, salt, nutrition and heavy meatal stress. Also, the research prospects of plant miRNAs,especially the application of mi RNA in the molecular breeding and improvement of resistant varieties, were discussed. This review could provide theoretical guidance for the study of plant miRNAs in crop breeding and improvement.
