Comparative Research on the Physiological Response of Four Alfalfa to Iron Deficiency

Iron is an important micronutrient of plants. In order to study the physiological effects of iron deficiency on cold-resistant forage and selected good forage suitable for planting in northeastern China, the tolerance to iron deficiency of Medicago sativa.‘Amerigraze 401',‘Ameristand 201+Z',‘Golden empress' and‘Zhaodong'was studied. The four alfalfa varieties were treated with iron deficiency for 3 d, 10 d and 17 d respectively, and the total iron content, chlorophyll content, MDA content and antioxidant enzyme activity were compared. The results showed that iron deficiency leads to the total iron content and the content of chlorophyll reduce and MDA content increase in alfalfa, and aggravate with the processing time, the tendency of antioxidant enzyme activity is first rise then descend. Compared with other three alfalfas, ‘Zhaodong'showed strong resistance to iron deficiency and could be used as a candidate forage in the cold climate and poor iron content soil.It provides a valuable theoretical basis for studying the molecular mechanism of iron stress response in forage and forage breeding.
