NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF STRESS-FIELD OF A CAST STEEL ROLL IN SOLIDIFICATION AND HEAT-TREATMENT

In this paper the dynamic stress-field of a large cast steel roll during the solidification and heat treatment has been investigated by elastic-plastic finite element analysis. The residual stress was also measured, and the calculated values approximately agree with the experimental data. The calculated stresses of the cast roll in solidification are far below the cracking stress. In the heat treatment, the heating and cooling rates are as great as 50K/h, and the values of stress induced are approaching the cracking stress of the roll.
