MICROSTRUCTURE OF RAPIDLY SOLIDIFIED MARAGING STEEL POWDER

The surface morphology and internal microstructures of rapidly solidified MA steel powder have been investigated by means of optical metallography and SEM. The powder was prepared by nitrogen atomization and rapid solidification centrifugal atomization(RSCA) separetely. The experimental results show that the surface morphology and internal microstructure of nitrogen atomizaed powder are dendritic; but those of RSCA powder are dendritic, cellulardendritic, cellular and pisolitic structure. The pisolitic is a new crystalline structure found in this study.
