CYCLIC HARDENING/SOFTENING BEHAVIOR AND MECHANISM OF 16NiCo STEEL
SHI Rong CHEN Daming KANG Mokuang ZHANG Xiyan (Northwestern Polytechnical University)
The cyclic strain behavior and cyclic softening/cyclic hardening mechanism of a new maraging steel 16NiCo has been investigated by determination of the cyclic and monotonic stress-strain curves under three aged conditions and the analysis of its microstructures. Results are quite different from those of common maraging steels: 16NiCo steel is cyclic stable or even cyclic hardening at lower strain amplitudes. One of the important factors for the excellent cyclic strain behavior of 16NiCo steel is the effective obstruction to dislocations movement caused by the second phase M_2C precipitates in the matrix.
