EFFECT OF COOLING RATE DURING QUENCHING ON THE MICROSTRUCTURES OF CARBON STEEL

The single pass compression tests at different temperatures were carried out on a Gleeble 2000 thermomechnical simulator for steel Q235 quenched immediately after deformation into different quenching media such as water, -60 ℃ dry ice alcohol solution and ice salt water with 50 % NaCl The results show that the microstructure depends on the cooling rate The hardenbility of the steel is high when quenching in the ice salt water, the original austenite is maintained mainly after quenching except some ferrite exists at the center of the samples The hardenbility of the steel quenched in dry ice is the lowest
