STUDY ON WEAR RESISTANCE OF METASTABLE AUSTENITIC MANGANESE STEEL

The wear resistance and the microstructure of the worn surface of the steels containing 4%~13%Mn were studied by means of abrasive wear test,XRD,SEM and Mossbauer spectroscopy.It is found that there exists a optimum Mn content for the wear resistance of the austenitic Mn-steels. The optimum Mn content increases with the abrasive impact energy increasing.The wear resistance of the metastable austenitic Mn-steels can be raised by chromium.The high wear resistance of the metastable austenitic Mn-steels lies in the high work hardening caused by induced martensite transformation.
