Objective To evaluate the significance of alpha fetoprotein( AFP), sialic acid(SA), alpha-L-fucosidase(AFU) and transforming growth factor β1 (TGF - β1) in the diagnosis of primary hepatic cancer (PHC). Methods Four serum tumor markers were determined in 167 cases with various types of hepatitis, 59 with PHC.Results According to statistics, the diagnostic sensitivity of these markers in PHC were AFU(93.2%) TGF- β1(80.0%) AFP(72.9%) SA(67.8%), Respectively; and specificity were SA(94.6%) AFP(83.8%) TGF- β1(82.0%) AFU(79.0%). Simultaneous detection of these markers gave a diagnostic sensitivity in PHC of 96.6% .Conclusion The combined assay of serum tumor markers is valuable in the diagnosis of PHC, especially in negative AFP patients.
