With China's becoming more popular around the world in recent years, the audience of China's foreign-oriented media in English is not only confined to those China hands who are interested in and familiar with China, but also include more common people whose interest might be influenced. The paper argues that it is essential to give more thought to the reader awareness under the growing audience of various types.A sample of China's foreign-oriented media has been collected to evaluate their readability via the tools of Readability Analyzer and Range by measuring the text difficulty, average sentence length, average word length,TTR and the lexical coverage, compared with the sample of English from two leading websites from the USA and Great Britain. Finally, implications for readability control in foreign-oriented publicity are proposed in light with the investigation.
