Finite Element Analysis of Energy Dissipating Performance of Damped Staircase

Damped staircase,a new method to improve the seismic performance of staircase in frame structure is put forward,its energy dissipating principle and construction method are introduced. The behaviors of damped staircase,conventional staircase and siliding staircase under a monotonic-static load are simulated with ABAQUS. The mechanical characteristics and energy dissipating performance of damped staircase are revealed and analyzed. Damped staircase eliminates infill walls' stiffness,restraint effect and stairs' brace effect; infill walls and stairs bear much samller force,which means infill walls and stairs are protected very well. Damped staircase improves lateral force transfer mechanism of staircase in frame structure,and avoids the adverse effects of infill walls and stairs on the mechanical performance of the frame. Damped staircase possesses very wide engineering application prospect with simple construction,explicit energy dissipating principle and remarkable energy dissipating effect.
