A GLOBAL APPROACH TO THE RECOGNITION OF SECTION AREAS OF ENGINEERING DRAWINGS

The recognition of engineering drawings has long been a focus in the field of CAD.The traditional algorithm based thinning is essentially a local algorithm, which generates deformations at branch points. We can't obtain the global information of an engineering drawing while getting the skeleton by thinning. By fully taking advantage of global recognition, the paper proposes a biggest priority principle and three subordinate principles to pick up section lines and to recognize the outline of section areas The new algorithm can reduce the affection of disturbance to the consecutive operations while obtaining the global information of the engineering drawing. The new algorithm has been implemented in the Engineering Drawingings Scanning Recognition System, which is developped by the State Key Lab. of CADCG at Zhejiang University.
