New method of building 2D histogram for image automatic segmentation

To solve image automatic segmentation problem, two new methods were proposed based on the general steps to set up two-dimensional entropy and the properties of two-dimensional entropy in this paper. In the first method, the two-dimensional histogram was made by using the central pixel’s gray value and maximum gray value of rest four neighbor pixels in the same neighbor, and in the second one, the two-dimensional histogram was made by using the central pixel’s gray value and minimum gray value of rest four neighbor pixels in the same neighbor. By comparing with the traditional method, experimental results of the first method on a lot of classical images that much detailed information about concerned objects in one image can be better preserved, and experimental results of the second one on a lot of classical images show that noise can be suppressed ideally without losing any necessary silhouette information about concerned object.
