The Influence of Space Charges on the Breakdown of SF_6

?In nonuniform fields, the corona stabilization breakdown of SF6 is related to theshielding effect of space charges. The static photographs of sparks showed that spark break-downs deviated froin the axis in the corona stabilization region. A space-charge model was put forward to explain curved sparks. Positive and negative polarity charges were injected to a15mm point-plane gap by means of auxiliary needle electrodes surrounding the gap. Experi-ments showed that the positive impulse breakdown voltage of SF6 decreased when negative charges were injected. And with positive bias voltage less than corona inception value, there was an increase in positive breakdown voltage because of the sweeping effect.
