Magnetic Saturation Type and Transformer Type Controllable Shunt Reactor

The magnetic saturation type controllable reactor (MCSR) and transformer type controllable reactor (TCSR) are newly-developed controllable reactors. In this paper, the fundamental operating principles, main performance characteristics, development status and application prospect of MCSR and TCSR are analyzed and compared in detail. It is realized that MCSR and TCSR have such virtues as smooth regulation of reactive power, low manufacture cost and maintenance outlay. Furthermore, it is pointed out that the harmonic current contents, response time and power loss of TSCR are smaller than ones of MCSR.
