Crime Prevention through Environmental Standardization Design for Transit Facilities——Interpretation and Revelation of CPTED Design Practice for Transit Facilities in USA

The prevention of violent crime and terrorist threats in transit systems is a difficult and urgent task. The APTA standard "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED) for Transit Facilities" outlines the concepts, principles, methods and measures of CPTED, including the benefits and security risk assessments. CPTED industry strategies include natural surveillance, natural access control, Territoriality, activity support and maintenance. Transit facilities are identified to achieve the design of CPTED strategies, through a CPTED survey. According to the paper, the standard enlightens that the facilities of Chinese transit should use CPTED to achieve the goal of reducing and preventing crime, standardization is an important way to counter terrorism and violent crime prevention, and developing a variety of strategies, various measures, and various ways constitutes a security system, and ongoing research and innovation against terrorism and violent crime prevention are needed.
