Response of atmospheric vapor over Gansu province to global climate change

Based on the data of vapor pressure over Gansu Province during the period from 1961 to 2000,in this paper the change of atmospheric vapor over Gansu Province is analyzed by applying the empirical orthogonal function(EOF),wavelet analysis and Petitt’ s change point.The results show that the change of atmospheric vapor over Gansu Province has a good coherence,and it has trended to increase,especially since 1987.The increase of atmospheric vapor over west Gansu Province is more significant than that over east Gansu,especially since 1978.There is a significant periodicity in the change of atmospheric vapor.The change of atmospheric vapor is obviously different from different seasons,the linear increase of atmospheric vapor is the most significant in summer,then in winter,and the slope of the linear increase of atmospheric vapor in spring and autumn is close to 0.The regions where the change of atmospheric vapor to global climate change is sensitive are mainly located near the Yellow River.There is a 2~4-year periodicity in the change of atmospheric vapor.The change of atmospheric vapor over Gansu Province is closely related to the Qinghai-Tibet high in summer and the seawater temperature in the North Pacific Ocean.
