Constructing aquifer structure in the Shiyang River Basin based on GMS

the Shiyang river basin is one of the drainage areas of inland rivers.Because of the severe over-abstraction,groundwater levels declined deeply,which results in a series of problems of environment.In reality,the groundwater aquifer system is multi-layered structure,which is superposed by multiple sub-aquifer system of weak aquifer or incomplete aquifuge.GMS(Groundwater Modeling System)is one of the representatives of numerical groundwater simulation software,there are complete numerical simulation functions in GMS.GMS software is used more and more widely because of its friendly interface,powerful pre-and post-processing capability and excellent 3D visual effect when usual standard software is used to simulate groundwater in foreign countries.The hydro-geological structure model which represents the space structure of the hydro-geological unit and the spatial distribution of aquifers,is the basement of groundwater and environment research.The advantages of the hydro-geological framework model based on GMS software are convenience,visualization and immediacy.However,there are still some problems in the process of building the model for large areas,and in revealing strata information with limited drilling data.That constrains to express the accuracy of spatial visualization.Based on the analysis of GMS software function,Shiyang River basin hydro-geological visual model was established to adopt conceptual model approach and solid approach,according to borehole data,stratum distribution data and map of geological cross-section.The model can intuitively and veritably show the spatial outspread shape and spatial combination feature of strata with different properties.Also,the following information such as the strata separation and combination,cut and display of sections,section at the appointed depth,observation of the strata in different visual angle,can be handily displayed by the three dimensional visualized strata model.It shows that aquifer structure has more or less horizontal and vertical zoning in this area.Combining use experience,it also presents some common problems appearing in application,so that it could be used for reference by using GMS software.Attempt was made to find the computing technique which accurately expresses the spatial structure of aquifer,and to reveal the spatial structure of aquifer system.This study can serve as an example of how the use of 3-D visualization techniques can benefit to decision-maker to understand groundwater aquifer and provide the basis for using of the water resources in Shiyang River basin.The complex occurrence of groundwater is invested and evaluated.The optimal control and management of the groundwater seepage field make the harmful environment problem reduce to its minimum in overall research area.The simulation result indicates that the revelation aquifer's information has the high simulation precision with the exploration datum.
