LAND DESERTIFICATION AND ITS INTEGRATED TRANSFORMATION OF DENGKOU COUNTY

The paper focuses on the formation, evolution, present situation andintegrated transformation of land desertification in Dengkou County. Theland desertification in the north of the county is mainly relative to the landdryness, wind erosion and human activities since Han Dynasty. However,the formation of Wulanbuhe desert in and on the south of the county chieflydepends on the long-range effects of physical factors, i.e. topography,local atmosphere circulation, sand source etc.. According to TM image,there is 2127.2 sq. km of desertified land in Dengkou, accounting for 51%of the total area, and causing manifold hazards every year. The landdesertification in the south is more serious than the north, The land inthe north is of great value of exploitation.
